The art of combining natural and handmade objects to produce art forms is a long standing tradition in different cultures throughout the wold. (Ikebana etc.) Almost every home has vases in one form or another that used for plants, flowers etc. I found it stimulating to apply my viewpoint to this artistry to create wooden objects. My approach was to incorporate a number of different techniques. . |
The first was to create a free form, sculptured objects using different textures and finishing .
My second design technique is classical vase form. I tried to create vases from staves combining different types of wood while using different joint techniques, woodturning, woodburning. I was especially fascinated with birdmouth joints because of their simplicity and design possibilitiies.
