All woodturners, at some point in their development, create vases, usually after learning to make bowls.  The difficulty in creating vases is dependent on its height.  It is very difficult to make something deeper than 12 inches.  Above 20 inches, real difficulties can be encountered.  Overhang of the tool is so great that at times, it can be very difficult to manage.  Solutions to this problem include increasing the size of the tool or a restraining device.  Vases are one of my beloved objects because I can create different forms, often female forms, and add embellishments such as reeding, carving, burning, and coloring.
